What is Meditation?
Meditation is a disciplined practice rooted in Processes of Engaging Mind and Awareness (*PEMA), aimed at cultivating inner quietude, healing, personal transformation, and beyond.
‘Awareness’ encompasses the profound presence within our being, spanning the body, heart, and senses, encompassing all sensations, feelings, and emotions. Meanwhile, ‘mind’ encapsulates an individual’s inner landscape or field of thoughts, memories, intuition, and the myriad components associated with cognitive processes, perception, and psychic-cognitions.
In the Eastern worldview, the mind is termed as manas, serving as an integral aspect of consciousness. Mind and awareness together is called Chitta (Pali and Sanskrit: चित्त; pronounced Chitta).
The Sanskrit term for “process” is Kriyā (Sanskrit: क्रिया), derived from the root kri, signifying ‘to do’. In the realm of inner work, the process or kriya involves harnessing mind and awareness (or chitta) within ourselves to delve into quietude, healing, personal transformation, and beyond.
*pema (པདྨ) is the Tibetan word for Sanskrit word – Padma (पद्म) – meaning – Lotus – a symbol for awakened chitta (mind & awareness).
